I apologize profusely for not keeping up this week. This second week was the 'relaxing' part of our vacation so I slacked a bit on the typing (and it was a pain to charge my ipod). It has been a whirlwind of a week with lots of exciting moments including Karneval, the Kölner Zoo (awesome!), the Chocolate Museum, the tower climb at the Kölner Dom, a walk along the Rhine river, dinner with friends, and an impromptu soccer game last night. I have always wanted to attend a European soccer game and I got my wish last night - featuring FC Köln! Thank you Michael and Bärbel!!!!!!! Nothing better than 47,500 fans crammed into a premier soccer stadium and surrounded by a crapload of Polizei (I got a picture with them too...they're hardcore!). They prolly thought, 'another crazy tourist...oy.'
We have managed to pack everything into our small suitcases and bags without busting the zippers (yet). Hopefully, we'll make it through German security in Frankfurt and customs in Seattle without anyone taking our alcohol. It would be such a pity if Chris does not get his exquisite Jim Beam and Coke in a can...hahaha.
We're off to eat breakfast one last time in our hotel, which has been great the whole week. The staff was excellent, helpful, and very hospitable. It was in such a great location - just far enough outside the inner city center and directly next to a U-bahn station. Only 7 stops to the Kölner Dom and the Zoo was along the way as was a stop next to the Rhine river. Perfect!
Today, TRAVELING, TRAVELING, TRAVELING. We will arrive in Portland at 5:45pm (well, scheduled anyways). It will be nice to see Zach pull up in the van to take us home. Thanks bro!
I will write more about the week when I return home and prolly in the middle of the night while suffering jet lag and new puppy syndrome... Fun!
