Since returning to the Kingdom of Thailand, our days have been filled with experiences and occurrences which left us both exhausted but grateful for the new learning curves embedded in our current establishment.
We’ve been island hopping on Koh Phangan for nearly three weeks, and embraced the easiness of simple living once again. Over here the island is your playground, it re awakens senses long lost in the mad rush of modern society and captures moments so beautiful it should feature in a travel brochure.
“A little piece of Paradise” is how I refer to our living arrangement on the beach of Laem Son.
Located North West of the island, we found a tiny bungalow. On a stretch of white sand, overlooking crystal waters in different hues of blue, it is private, it is peaceful, and for us it is just perfect.
On a typical day we enjoy scootering from one end to the other, taking pleasure in discovering different parts of the island, or absorbing the sunshine with a good read on the near perfect beach, and afterward cooling off in the calm sea. Over weekends we make way to the Masons Arms, an English Pub which features Happy Hours and live broadcast Rugby on the big screen. Since our previous visit in 2007, Koh Phangan has expanded its horizons and shops, eateries, markets and resorts popped up everywhere. It is now an island which buzzes with busyness but also has an open door for those who want to escape to secluded serene spots.
Ferdi started a teaching job which occupies 3 hours of his day, a real blessing since our richness began to fade, and we reverted back to basics such as the joys of self catering! In a week’s time, my TEFL course will commence, and after completion we’ll head for a new challenge and location. But until further notice, we are living a high life on a small budget, and enjoying every single moment thereof!
Laa kawn!
Tip of the Day:
For self catering travellers, opt for shopping at the Tesco Lotus in Thongsala. It is way cheap and good value for money.
If you are looking for Thai dishes and special drinks and treats, there is a market located next door to the 7 Eleven in Thongsala. Stuff yourself with anything from Green Curry to Coconut veggies to Fruit shakes and iced coffee, for 30 Baht or less.
Accommodation Rates: Laem Son Bungalows, 300 Baht per beach located bungalow per night.
