I have a lot of updates to tell, but I figured instead of writing it all at once I'd write them a little at a time (to make them more interesting and readable). Over the next couple of days I'll be trying to put up those stories and pictures. For now, I've gotten a lot of questions about the courses I am taking here, so I thought I'd cue everyone in on the academic side of my adventure (but seriously, let's be realistic, I'm not really going to study, I just take the classes for appearances).
I am enrolled in three courses at Stirling University: History, Renaissance to Revolution, Scotland 1513-1689 (Scottish History); Intro to Leisure Studies; and Psychology of Sport.
I am not a huge history fan, but I am actually most excited for that class. I think it will be fun to learn a new history (for me), and especially because I'm in Scotland I feel like it will be a fabulous way to feel more connected with the country while I'm here.
Intro to Leisure studies basically looks at what people do in their free time and why. I think about half the semester is focused on gambling. It's part of the marketing department, which I have never taken a class in before, but I think it could be interesting to learn a little bit about leisure (plus, the best way to study is to practice, right?!?).
My third class is Psychology of Sport, which I am very excited about as well. It is a class they offer at UPS, but I won't have time to take it with my schedule, so I'm very happy I can take it now. Stirling is also very well known in Scotland for its sports programs (both academic and athletic), so it should be a great department, and I'm hoping a great class too.
Despite the joking, I am excited to take these classes and can't wait to come back and tell you all everything I've learned!
Sending my love from across the pond.
