Dosa Confusion

2001-09-23, Jaipur, India

Had a dosa for lunch after being recommended it by some chap we met the previous day. The waiter brought the huge flat fried thing and two little dishes .... unfortunately he negated to include the instruction manual. Despite my gesticulations and exagerated looks of confusion the waiter just smiled and nodded his head at me repeated "Yes ... dosa!". Finally conluded that it looks like a pancake therefore it must be one ... although a slightly hot one admitadley.

Walked along the streets and stalls and enjoyed the smells coming from the spice stores - made a change from poo and wee that's for sure. A glass of sweet lime juice from a street stall and a few more handshakes with some giggling girls. Today we also decided to get our own back on the Indian's by running up to this stunning young lady in a sari and asking her if we could take HER photograph. Though we were very pleased with ourselves the status quo was soon returned to normality when we sat down in the park and we suddenly surrounded by a group of about 10 young chaps that could speak no English. They just sat there looking at us. Later one of the lads decided to introduce us to his entire family, after which they stalked us for a while.

Escaped in a peddle rickshaw at top speed, though our driver was very old and on the verge of a coronory. Discovered that the term "As you like?" which is usually said as you ask the price before getting in the rickshaw actually means - "Get in, and pay whatever you want. Though what ever it is won't be enough and you will have insulted me, my family, my dead ancestors and my dog. I will now look very angry and argue with you for the next half hour!"

Na - Ma - Stay = "Hello!"

Dan - u - wad = "Thankyou"
