Well a Royal Welcome from Vienna on the Third and Fourth Days of Nana's 'Viennese Adventure!'

I know I'm writing a day behind, and I apologise so Im going to catch up with all the days activities and fun from yesterday and today!

Yesterday, we (i say 'we' however it was just me) arose a little later than before and we headed into town to get some food. Now being in Vienna, I thought it a good idea to treat Nana and Eileen to Schnitzel, a traditional Viennese dish. And what a better place to go than to the most famous Schnitzel house in Vienna? Figlmuller! A favourite with royalty and celebrities (apparently!) And now a favourite of mine (I bought my boyfriend here also) It's also traditionally a wine house and so they don't serve any beer or other alcoholic beverages or dessert. The Austrian wine my boyfriend (Phil by the way, i should really start calling him by his name!) and I had was amazing! Unfortunately the name of it has slipped my memory...possibly due to the large quantities we drank! Figlmuller's schnitzel's also literally overlap the plates and are one of the best i have ever tasted! Not that i eat schnitzel on a regular basis, I've just been lucky enough to try a few since being here.

After struggling to finish them-yes we were royally defeated- we headed back to the Imperial Apartments in the Palace to finish what we had started on Monday.

They really are impressive and offer a great insight into the life and personality of the Empress Elisabeth - or Sisi as she was commonly known! If you enjoy your history, as i do, then it's rather interesting and if you enjoy pretending to be a princess for the day, as i do, then you will enjoy swanning around the apartments as if they were your own!

Today, we carried on our 'Royal' tour of Vienna and headed to the Belvedere. Which is architecturally stunning! Again, i just enjoyed prancing around the grounds as if it were my own home, singing 'Do, a deer' from the Sound of Music! (Yes i know im sad!)

The Belvedere consists of two houses, the Upper Belvedere and the Lower Belvedere, both of which are home to a lot of art. We were limited to the Upper Belvedere today, the more visually stunning of the two and the one that holds the Gustav Klimt exhibition (If that means anything to you....i know it really didn't to me the first time i heard of him, and yes that may be classed as ignorance, but I'm really not an 'art' person)

In saying that, though, i did enjoy certain parts of the exhibitons in the Belvedere.

I loved the sculpure Amor and Psyche by Theodore Friedl and the "Character Heads" by Franz Xaver Messerschmidt. (I think I'm more of a sculpture person, i also enjoyed the Rodin museum in Paris) But Egon Schiele's portraits were also quite interesting. Klimt, on the other hand, doesn't really interest me. Maybe if i knew more it would.

But two Royal settings in two days....Oh La La!

It's just a shame I couldn't find my horse and carriage to bring us home!

xoxo
