LIVERPOOL!

Amazingly fun. Pretty much I had the most culturally diverse day and a half ever. I went with Ally, Heather, Kristin, and Caroline(The Americans) and Magdalaina (the Canadian) and Laura (The South African). I will post pictures as soon as I can (will I ever) but I've got to wait. I'm going to compile them from the best facebook photos available from everybody's camera, to make a sort of super album. It'll be great.

Since last I wrote I have been to an art gallery, a cathedral, a play, and an orchestra concert.

Not to mention a little place called Penny Lane, and Strawberry Fields.

AHAHAHAHAHA!

I actually really liked the Beatles tour we went on, because it was informative and not cheesy. It was called "The Magical Mystery Tour" which at least displays some knowledge of the band's repertoire. Our tour guide was this great middle aged Liverpudlian lady who was really funny and clearly obsessed with the band. And you know how most bus tours just show the really nice sides of town? Well, the Beatles bus tour couldn't because it had to show where the guys grew up, and some of them were poor. So we got a taste of the real Liverpool all right, Ringo's birth home is in a boarded up street and about to be torn down, and we had to pass some REALLY shady looking places to get to George's house. John, however, had this really nice suburban house. Who knew?

We went to "The Cavern" as well, the club that got the Beatles started. A ton of huge names have played there. It's a bit touristy, but I think that Liverpool does a good job of not overdoing it. It was still kind of a cruddy dive, which I respect.

We saw a play called "Peas" about a mentally challenged man who lives with his mom and obsesses over Doctor Who. I got most of the references. Aw yeah.

We saw the 5th largest Cathedral in the world.

We saw The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

We saw an awesome 20th century Art Exhibit (including an Andy Warhol room, and some Picasso. There was totally a lobster phone.)

We also went to China town, and went to this great Chinese restaurant. And by great I mean memorable, because it was kind of shady. Heather spent four pounds on a cheap ice cream cup that came directly from a plastic wrapper... oh man, that's still funny, even when I type it!

And now to commemorate the ridiculous people I met in Liverpool, during our short time there:

The lead singer of the band "Yoshi" who gave me his band's myspace page and kissed me on the cheek.

The disgruntled Indian man who worked at the Fab Four Diner and had had just about enough of our nonsense.

The Ice Cream truck driver who gave us completely wrong directions to our hotel.

Vasily Petrenko, the conductor of the Orchestra, who was kind of a hottie-boom-bottie.

The incredibly drunk Liverpudlian man on the streets at 11am that assumed since I was from the US that meant I was from LA. Hence the quote on the top of the page.

Sam, from "The Cavern" who dresses in a suit jacket and ascot all the time and rides a giant imaginary duck named Jim. I'm not making him up, as soon as I'm able to post pictures I'll prove his existence. "I wear these clothes all the time. I passed out once, when it was hot outside."

The bus driver, who watched our Penguin huddle in the cold, and teased us by going through the motions of getting the bus ready super slowly.

As you can see, it was a great weekend. I'll stop boring you now. Just wait for pictures! It's gonna be EPIC!
