In Oxford I went to the museum of the history of science, and that's where I fell in love.
The object of my sudden passion was a circular golden disc, with mysterious curved layers and curling embellishments. It's called an astrolabe, and it calculates the movements of the planets. I honestly felt my heart beat fast, my breath quicken. I think they may be the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
I also sighed over armillary spheres (3D models of how the planets orbit the sun) and sundials. Ohh... historical science. Who could have guessed I would adore you so?
