Flew into Perth fom Hong Kong to be greeted by Caroline and Graham Powney. Caroline has been a friend for over 30 years and emigrated to Perth nearly 5 years ago with their daughters Ruth and Emma. Their other daughter Beth chose to remain in Huddersfield (?!). Caroline and Graham celebrate their 20th wedding aniversary this year. We stay as their guests in Mindarie for the next week.

At the end of the week, we feel we know Perth fairly well having been shown all the sites by Graham and Caroline. Most important thing as one would expect in Australia is the passion for the barbie - at every opportunity we (well Graham) are cooking on the barbie. If not at home, in the wonderful parks that surround Perth which have built in barbies complete with free gas. Excellent!

The sunsets in Perth have to be seen to be believed - truly stunning as we hope some of the photos show. The beaches are endless and the sand is powder white. Easy to see why there are so many ex-pats there.

So many places to visit - Yanchep National Park for the scenery, Kangaroos and Koalas - one of our favourites. Kings Park overlooking the city, and around 9 square miles, is clearly a favourite with the locals whatever their age. It even suffered from a bush fire recently. And one of the nights we were all there, Simply Red - Carolines fave band were playing - no tickets!

Thaks again to Graham and Caroline, who made our stay in Perth so enjoyable and memorable - we hope to visit again.

Right, next stop Adelaide for 2 nights.
