Currently my camera is having some issues, so in order to put pics up I've had to steal Ally's. The pictures are of a lovely day trip to Stoke on Trent that Lydia, Ally and I went on Saturday.
Enjoy.
And now for what you've all been waiting for,
A description of what I have been eating.
Okay, food-wise, England is not exactly superb. I've been doing my best though to be as cheap as possible and still eat relatively well.
BREAKFAST: My roommates eat either cereal or fruit. I, last week, went nuts and bought crumpets. Because I am in England, damn it. They're like English Muffins, but cooked in a way that is moist and delicious. This week I've been breaking my fast on Porridge. Again, I am in England. However, I have discovered that porridge is just the British word for oatmeal, so it was kind of disappointing. But once you put some milk and honey in it, it's glorious.
LUNCH: I'm still trying to work out a way to bring my lunch to campus, because I've been forced to eat down there, which is expensive. Today I trekked home for lunch, and ate a peanut-butter (of the gross, oily, tasteless English variety) jelly and banana sandwich of my own invention. Awesome. Usually I eat on campus, one of the meal deals of a sandwich and drink. I usually get tuna-mayonnaise and sweet corn, or salmon, but the chicken tikka sandwich looks really good as well. I also sometimes get a flapjack, which here is like some sort of oatmeal bar, only buttery and delicious. Oh, or sometimes I get a potato with beans on it. Amazing.
DINNER: Dinners at house six are a blast. Lydia comes over, and Heather's frind Kristin, so there's six of us in the kitchen bustling about and making our own food. Favorites have been: turkey dinosaur nuggets, huge amounts of pasta, grilled cheese and turkey sandwiches, and (for me) oatcakes. I bought oatcakes because my "English Radicals and Writers" professor told me to. Apparently they are the food that peasants in this area ate in the middle ages, because they were too poor to buy an oven for bread. So what with my breakfast of porridge and my dinner of oatcakes, I'm pretty much a peasant.
Although my eating plans may change for the next few days because Ally just brought to my attention that the loaves of bread we bought Saturday expire in four days. So we've gotta get a-eatin'. SO MUCH BREAD!! AAHH!!
Oh, and for you 'Spaced' fans, I bought Jaffa Cakes. They are amazing.
