Chennai formerly known as Madras is the capital city of Tamil Nadu. It is the fourth largest metro city in India. Chennai has retained its traditional Tamil Hindu culture and effectively blended it with the foreign influence. The city is a major trade center and widely spread in about 180 Sq. kms.

Compared to other big Indian cities, Chennai is not as congested and polluted as Bangalore. Chennai, is a journey into timeless India, a kaleidoscope of moods. rich in the treasures of history, from temples and shrines to forts and palaces, the landscape of the past lives easily with the present. Retaining much of its traditional charm, this 350 year old city is the gateway to the south, providing many a fascinating southern heritage.

From Puducherry, Chennai is only three hours to the north. There is a bus every 20 minutes as I was told. Since there were four of us going, we decided to hire a taxi instead for Rs. 500 each. We stopped at an Indian restaurant and had South Indian food.

My destination is The Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) is the home of Sri. K. Patabhi Jois and BKS Iyengar guru. It’s ironic how two great masters have the same guru and ended up in a different path or style of yoga, Sri K in Ashtanga and Iyengar in his own style. These two masters are now in their 90s. The great Krishnamacharya is of course “no more”. His son Desikachar and grandson T.S.V.

B and I planned on this trip together so although we are parting ways, we came here together and go our own ways from here. We both went there for yoga consultation. My Yoga Therapist did not have much to say about me but to sum up her brief analysis, She wrote on my chart “Well aware of her sutras.” This means, I am happy, I am balanced, blah blah blah.

Only one day here then back to Bangalore. I went to the airport and B went back to Puducherry to take a yoga course.
