Gosh, I'm getting behind on this journal... Some other things I did in Berlin:
- visited Tacheles, a former shopping centre built a century ago, bombed, turned into Nazi headquarters, abandoned, and turned into a network of experimental art studios - ate a vegan chicken and cheese burger! - went to see a late 20s silent film in a dingy, dinky little room with a live pianist who played so incredibly that we forgot our drab surroundings completely - went to a film museum where I saw original set designs from "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and "Metropolis", Marlene Dietrich's dresses, and as much pre-50s movie info as my little heart desired - became fascinated by the period of history in which Germany was divided - saw statues of Egyptian and Greek gods and goddesses AGAIN and finally got over them (it was the huge reconstructed Greek temple that did it, I found it just as intimidating and alienating as I usually find churches) - saw an exhibition of precursors to surrealism, and realised I prefer Max Klinger to Dali
My tastes in art have been changing while I wasn't looking. Interesting. Then I left for Köln, AKA Cologne...
