Keep the messages coming! It's like a little present each time I check my journal on this "high speed" internet. "High speed" is more like AOL version 2 dial-up.
This week started off well. I actually worked some normal hours today at a local government hospital called the BSES MG Hospital. It is technically a government hospital, but through donations the entire hospital is being run by a charity group called Brahmakumaris. I was able to scrub in today on a reconstructive surgery of a 19 year old girl with significant facial fractures during an motor vehicle accident.
Besides that, this hospital is known for providing free surgeries to cleft palate patients. For more information, you can read about the hospital and the cleft palate program at http://www.ghrc-bk.org/.
As for the HIV/AIDS center for women and children, there is more information at http://www.ccdtrust.org/projects_child.html. The name of the project is Project CHILD. Like I said before, I think a month elective or for those of you considering a year abroad, this would be a great place to work!
Ok, that's all for now. I am going to Navsari, in Gujarat tomorrow for Uttarayan, the annual kite festival. Apparently, this city has a huge competition and according to my uncle, "a once in a lifetime experience." I will take plenty of pictures, don't worry!
