Luxor to Dahab

2009-01-07, Dahab, Egypt

At first glance, the surroundings of our final destination within Egypt seemed like something out of a Disney movie. With somewhat of an “Arabian” genre, Dahab comes complete with trinket shops, camel rides and scents of incense wafting throughout.
Embedded by desert hues, this little oasis sprouts into a sparkling town neighbouring the Red Sea Coastline, delivering all that is expected from a diver’s paradise to holiday maker’s entertainment, to backpacker's rates.

We settled into ideal accommodation, fortunately not a day too late because soon thereafter, the Seven Heaven Hotel was bustling with tourists and every single room was occupied. Understandably so, as they offer good rooms at good rates, cheap wireless internet access and a laid back lounge area complete with a very enthusiastic chef!
And once you step outside the hotel, you are within seconds of shops, seaside and sunshine as everything is right at your fingertips.

Scattered along the walkway which connects Masbat and Mashraba, are plenty of restaurants, each with its own fascinating tale to lure you in. Once inside, you are welcomed with plush cushions and bright décor, low lights and chilled out atmosphere. But with extensive menus, all at competitive rates (because something has to set this eatery apart from the one next door), the options can be overwhelming. This leads to loss of appetite, or fleeing to local places just outside the rush area to enjoy a quiet, more value for money meal. We chose the latter, and were happy to stick with it.

In Dahab there is something for everyone, diving or snorkelling at the Blue Hole, windsurfing at the lagoon, ducking in and out of souvenir and bookshops, horse riding,
tanning or simply kicking off your shoes, sipping a cocktail and sharing a hubbly with friends. We’ve found ourselves within a world where enjoyment is the essence, relaxation is the key and comfort is the cherry on top!

Salaam!

Accommodation rates: Seven Heaven Hotel, 60 L.E per self contained double room per night.

Tip of The Day: Step outside the tourism boundaries, and you will find nice places to eat, with nice big portions at much nicer prices.
