We decided that it would be nice to spend Christmas in a decent room so we splashed out on the hotel Utopia Resort. This was set on a cliff top, overlooking the Gulf of Thailand. There was a great view of the ocean from the swimming pool and it felt really strange to be sunbathing at Christmas time!
We set up our room with our home made decorations and filled some of Ross' bigger socks (they were clean - honest!) with the presents we had picked up for each other. (They were even wrapped in proper wrapping paper after Ross had walked 45 minutes to a Tesco (I know!) in Bangkok to get some - even if it was covered with the usual 'I love you, happy, happy' type English phrases they seem to love so much here).
On Christmas day we couldn't face having rice or noodles. It just didn't feel right. So we ordered the closest thing we could to it on the menu: a chicken kiev type thing with boiled veg! The hotel staff were bemused by us eating dinner with our crackers and wearing paper hats because it was just another day at work for them!
We spent the day opening our presents, drinking beer and wine and watching the DVDs we had bought.
