Went to the post office to send the bed cover back to the UK. Not something to be hurried, rather savoured I think! First you have to get your parcel it’s own tailored little jacket. No, I mean quite litterally. This young chap will measure it up and then cut up some cloth and then sow it up in it. Then all the joints get little splodges of wax along then which are then pressed with a seal. Then you need to write the address in felt tip pen and take it to the counter. Get it weighed, fill out a form, then bring the slip back to the man who sowed it up so that he can sow the form onto the package …. Then take it back to the counter!!! It takes about an hour a flipping parcel! And the queues!!!!!!
Later we thought that we’d go for some shopping therapy at the shopping plaza aka the old market part of the Birmingham Bullring on a very very bad day.
Finally sercumed to a beer and some whiskey on the roof with the hotel manager. He told us about his wife and children and how is wasn’t very happy. He was also going to Holland soon to visit friends and wondered if he could have our parents addresses so that he could pop in to stay with them for a few days!!
