Our first journal entry for this year. We were rerouted from Mumbai to Bangalore because of the terroist attack in Mumbai. As we have toured Bangalore and surrounding area on a previous trip we decided to Head straight to Goa. The new Bangalore airport (beautiful) houses both the domestic and international airports so we walked from interntional to domestic (about 100 yds.) and booked a plane to Goa (1 hour). Another 45 min by taxi to Benaulim and we were here by mid afternoon. We made our connecting flight to Bangalore in London. The new terminal 5 is quite spectacular. Beautifully designed, very little walking to departure gates as you are transported either by long escalators or subway type cars from place to place. Buses take you to and from the plane.

As we are earlier this year than usual, we are able to watch the rice planting that is currently being carried out. Otherwise our village is pretty much the same. The first day walking down the beach road took forever as we had to stop and talk to the many vendors, taxi drivers, waiters etc that we have come to know. Tourism is down but the regulars have shown up. The place we stay at has done some revnovation and our room is quite nice with new tiles on the floor and walls. The also retiled our patio which means that the floor was raised by about 4 inches but the built-in cement bench stayed at the same height. So when we sit we expect the bench to be four inches higher than it is. Quite a jolt.

Well the beach beckons. It is sunny, hot with a nice northerly breeze. The mornings and evenings are delightfully cool. How's the weather where your are?

Next entry: The Beach Vendor
