The end of the world!!

As a quick stop we decided to take a 12 hour bus journey, and a short boat trip across the Strait of Magellan, to Ushuaia in Argentina for 3 days. Ushuaia is the southern most city in the world, making it the end of the world! It is a beautiful town located on the Beagle Channel surrounded by snowy peaks.

On our first day we took a boat trip along the Beagle Channel. The weather was surprisingly perfect as we cruised through the end of the world!! We passed 2 small islands filled with sea lions, fur seals and cormorants, which from a distance look like penguins! The islands looked like a postcard, enveloped by snow covered mountains contrasting against the blue skies, and not a building in sight! The sea lions did smell really bad! As we cruised along we had Chile on one side of us and Argentina on the other. We passed Les Eclaireurs lighthouse - the southern most lighthouse in the world before heading to Isla Martillo. Here we saw around 50 Magellan penguins, some sleeping at the waters edge, some swimming and others waddling on the shore. It was fantastic watching them in their natural surroundings. A very relaxing day at the end of the world!!

Our second and final day was spent hiking up Glacier Martial, another beautiful clear day. Instead of taking the chair lift we decided to give ourselves a bit of exercise and walked instead - all uphill! The views were incredible looking down, we saw the whole of Ushuaia and the Beagle Channel. Looking up we saw nothing but blinding snow and mountains - so tranquil up there and surprisingly warm despite being in the snow!

A great 2 days at the end of the world!
