Hello everyone!
I just thought I'd give another little update of our activities in the last week...
On Tuesday me, Erin, and Varcha went to our nation (Ostgota) and did some baking! It was us and about 3 other girls and we baked some Swedish cookies and breads which were sooo yummy and then we all sat down and tasted everything with some tea. The best part was that we each got to take home a loaf of fresh bread and some cake. mmmmm.
On Thursday, me and Isaac went to the open air museum in Lund. It's apparently the largest one in the south of Sweden and the second oldest in the world! It was really beautiful...and really huge. We didn't get to finish it all, so we might go back before we leave. It's really neat because they have a bunch of little houses that they've made up to show Sweden through the ages and how different people in different income levels lived and stuff. So that was very nice.
We also have another knee-slapping story about the ongoing issues with the university. YAY. So me and Isaac both took a course called "business to business marketing" last semester, and about a week ago, everyone FINALLY received their marks (it took over 3 weeks). Except for Isaac. Isaac did not get his marks. So he emails the course secretary (yes, they have course secretaries), and explains the fact that he sent in his final paper, he is registered in the course...so why doesn't he have his marks? The course secretary emails back and says that she will forward his email to Lars, the professor. So he doesn't hear anything for a couple of days and decides to email them both again. Lars emails back the next day and says "I couldn't open the file for your final paper. Please send it again". Riiight. That paper was sent to him almost a month ago. Don't you think the decent thing to do would be to send an email to the student immediately after you realize that you can't open the document instead of waiting for a month? Is that not standard conduct? I don't know, maybe not. Maybe we're supposed to be mind readers. Anyway, he finally ended up getting his mark and everything is right with the world again.
Also the passport issue is finally on it's way to being over. Isaac's been dealing with a bit of a character at the Canadian consulate as well, but I won't bore you with the details - just know that it takes almost a full day in order to get in touch with him, even if he says to call him on a specific day at a specific hour. But Isaac managed to squeeze in an appointment and his passport should arrive within 15 days.
Tonight I think we'll be going to a toga party. It's Nora's birthday so we'll be heading off to a nation dressed in toga's! should be fun.
Then next weekend, December 6th, we'll be having a Canadian brunch - pancakes and poutine, and we'll be giving out some of our Canadian merchandise from home. Everyone is very excited about trying maple syrup and wearing beaver hats and going around saying "eh" and "aboot" and so on.
I will be putting up some more pictures soon so stay tuned for more updates!
TTFN
Love,
Rachel
