It is amazing how fast and what you learn within the realms of travelling, especially when done the public way. An experience like this can either make you or break you and in our case I have found a great build in character strength from the both of us.

We sometimes face difficult, hot and dirty days of moving from one place to another, our time consumed with more interval stops than actual driving. Recently we had to buy back our Bibles from a local who “bought” them from a tour guide after we forgot a bag on the Dina truck which took us to Fat Monkeys. Our mistake, but a price we had to pay. Sometimes we are disappointed in what we find with regards to accommodation. Our stay in Monkey Bay proved just that with overcharged room rates yet disappointing rooms itself, as well as our arrival at the only backpackers in Lilongwe called Mabuya bush Camp, which turned out to be nothing like their beautiful brochures displayed at other campsites. But seeing it as a constant learning curve with wonderful rewards like the gem of a campsite Cool Runnings, means that were not at all! The upside of the capital is that it offers much needed familiarities such as shops, banks and restaurants for a treat, and our main reason for visiting Lilongwe is CRC for much needed Soul Food on Sunday!

Accommodation Rates: Mabuya Bushcamp 500 Kwacha per person per night for camping, 700 Kwacha per person per night for dorm sharing.

Cheerio!

Tip of the Day:

Try and make change, and do not settle for more than 50 Kwacha per minibus ride in and round town. If one doesn't have smaller money, conductors sometimes claim to have no change!

Next entry: Nkatha Bay to Karonga
