11/13/2008 Japan
Leaving Yemen was business as usual. It was a short hitch at 3 weeks but enough time to get reacquainted with the job and camp. I managed to get bumped up into business class with Yemenia. Basically means a little more leg room and less flies to swat at. As long as the plane doesn’t crash anything else is a bonus. The flight left Yemen at 11:30 am on Thursday and I will be touching down in Tokyo on Friday at 17:30. I am looking forward to flying first class on Singapore Airlines. I have heard they have free lap dances.
Singapore Airlines
So here I fly in first class and what was voted the world’s best airlines in 2008. No lap dances (thus far) but no shortage of services. So far I have been offered every newspaper in the free world, magazines, socks, eye shades, swanky toiletries and the best is my Givenchy “night suit” I just put it on for shits and giggles but I love what it does for my shape. Looks like I have the arse of a 20 year old. More importantly they offered me some Dom Perignon. Oh Dom, you fat French, sectarian bastard, how I have missed you. I might be the messiest flyer that they have. Around me I have a lap top converter, cord, shoes, pack, camera, clothes, hard drive, blanket, pillows, electronics, and I think there is a small animal there as well.
There is a lot of turbulence right now, dishes flying, wine spilt, flight attendances scrambling to get strapped in but Dom and I are real cool. The lounge is Singapore was amazing. Opulent furniture, top notch service and exquisite food. The flight to Japan was even better from Dubai. Large seats that unfolded into flat beds, a 14” tv and a great selection of tv and movies. The food was amazing as well. And this had the lap dances. On the way over we could see Mount Fuji from the air but that is as close as I will get.
First Day in Japan
The stereotypes about the Japanese being so patient and polite seems to be true. I remember in Russia while I was buying a subway ticket, the person behind the counter was giving me the business about something as well as the people in line. Here, the staff are so helpful while the rest of the people just silently wait and help out when they can. If they don’t know where the location is they call other people over and they have a bit f a huddle and let me know where I want to go. There is bumper to bumper traffic and nary a horn to be heard.
