Hello Everyone!
The constant nagging from my mom to update my journal has finally pushed me to do it!
So, since I have come back to England a lot has happened! It took a while for Jason and I to find a nice place to live in London as it seems there are quite a few dives out there! We ended up taking a place near Woodgreen for a few weeks so I could start my classes and we could continue looking for a more permanent place. After a week we ended up finding a really nice (and huge) house near Golders Green in London. Seven of us live in the house which sounds like a lot but not for its size! Steve and Amy are in their late 20’s and are from Australia….they are really nice. Will works in television and is my age and British. Fiona is a dancer at a small theatre and is also British. Finally there is Jane, who is also Australian and works in advertising (I think…)…she is 27. They are all really cool and it feels like we have our own little family here! We always hang out on the weekends and we sometimes go out for ‘family house dinners’. It’s awesome so far!
Anyway, my acting classes are going really well! It is hard work though between Yoga, Dance, Singing, History of Art and even Circus classes! Yes, I can proudly say that I now know how to juggle! YUP! Juggle!!! Don’t worry I was surprised I could do it too! It is loads of fun and the people in my class are really nice. There are lots of nationalities in the class (Swedish, Australian, British and Russian) but I can proudly say I am the only Canadian!
I got a job here in London pretty quickly doing web site marketing for a company called Let Me Play that runs sports camps for kids in the summer. Jason also got a job quickly doing IT in a company that runs networks in schools.
For my birthday Jason ended up giving me a 3 day trip to Prague which was so exciting! It was funny as well as I mentioned we had been back for less than a month and we were already planning our next trip! We ended up going from Nov 2-5 and it was better then I imagined!
We flew out very early on a Sunday morning and were at our hotel in Prague by 11 am. Since we were not yet able to check in we decided to go for a wander around the city to see what we wanted to do while we were there. We crossed the river and had lunch at a little sandwich place (which was so cheap!). Then we went for a walk around the old town and looked around all the little streets and shops. We went to a tourist office to pick up some tour pamphlets and then headed back to our hotel to check in. The hotel was really nice and the room was great. The only bad thing was the three flights of stairs to the room (as the building was too old for an elevator)! But you get used to that in European cities! We decided to head out in town that night and went to a nice little café in Wencelas square for a drink before heading back to a restaurant near out hotel where we were able to have dinner for less than 20 dollars!!! Everything is so cheap in Prague! The average pint of beer was about $1.50! It was awesome and the food was so good! The next morning we headed back to the old town and caught a free walking tour of the city…yup…free! The only catch was you had to tip at the end what you thought was fair. The tour took us around the old town to the astronomical clock…a clock built in the fifteen hundreds that keeps track of time, days, months, season and Czech Name days which is a tradition for them. We went into a nice church and learned a lot about the old buildings around the city. In the afternoon we just decided to take our own walk around the city and headed across the Charles Bridge and up the hill to Prague Castle which had a gorgeous view over the city! On our way back down I stopped at a tiny little Christmas shop near the castle and bought a little decoration for our tree when I come home! After heading back to our hotel to sit down (we had been walking ALL day) we headed back to the old town to meet a pub tour we had booked that would take us to some of the old pubs of Prague and included a traditional Czech meal. The first pub we went to was the house of the executioner in old Prague and was a tiny little pub behind the old town square. We got a chance to meet everyone on our tour (most of whom were older Americans) and then headed to a small restaurant to have our pub dinner. I had beef with dumplings covered in a sweet cranberry gravy sauce…I forget what it was called but it was SO good! The final pub was interesting. A comic artist had been drunk one night and started drawing on the walls…the owners liked it so much that they hired him to do the rest of the pub! So all the walls are covered in funny but somewhat inappropriate comic characters. It was funny :o) When the pub walk was over a few of the younger people (an Irish couple and another English couple as well as Jason and I) stayed behind for awhile before we called it a night and headed back to the hotel. The next day we got up and headed back into town to do a bit of shopping before we caught another free walking tour in the afternoon. We headed to the main museum in the city only to find it was closed on the first Tuesday of every month! What bad luck is that! We walked around the city a bit and went to a nice market before sitting down in a little café for lunch. We caught the afternoon free walking tour that took us across the river to the ‘Lesser town’ before heading up the hill to the castle again. We saw some interesting pieces of art that can only be explained by pictures and went in another really nice old church. When the tour was done we went out for a nice dinner at a place we passed on our walking tour which was really nice. Halfway through our meal, a pianist came out and started playing live music for us during our meal! After dinner I convinced Jason to come to a small Jazz bar with me and it was really good…well the atmosphere was…the jazz left something to be desired at times! The next morning it was time to come home so we caught the plane and were back in England for 12:00.
It was amazing and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe! I highly recommend that everyone visit if they can! It was so beautiful and a nice little short break from life :o)
So in conclusion, everything is going great here so far! I come home for Christmas on Dec 14 and I can’t wait! I am also excited because Morgan is coming to visit for a week in March which should be nice! I like it here but I cant say much for the weather which is always rainy!!!
Anyway, I miss you all and I cant wait to see everyone at Christmas!
Love,
Jenn
