Tennis Master's Cup Day 3

2008-11-11, Shanghai, China

Today I went to class in the morning, as usual. Then I found out that tomorrow I don't have to go to my internship place. Then I decided that day should be reserved for going to watch the Tennis Master's Cup. I was looking online to see who was playing and I came across Djokovic playing today, Tuesday at 8pm!

I got so excited, and I figured: I am in Shanghai, and I should go today. So I called up Jen and Andrew, and we all went to the Qi Zhong Tennis Stadium. It took an hour and a half to get there!

We didn't have tickets because we figured we could just get them from ticket scalpers. We ended up meeting this Shanghainese guy, and he had a friend who was inside, and apparently you can swipe in and out. So he went inside and got me 2 tickets, and I paid him 100rmb. Then, I saw this foreign girl getting out and asked her if I can have her ticket. She just gave it to me =D. So we got 3 tickets for 100kuai total = 33.33kuai per ticket = 5USD per ticket = madd cheap. Sorry for my poor English. So it was $5 USD to watch No. 3 seed Djokovic play against No. 5 seed Davydenko. That was amazing to see. I was surprised and disappointed, however, when they played best of 3 sets inside of 5. I was just happy to see him play live!!!

It was awesome. I got some concession food too, but that was more expensive than my ticket alone. The only problem was getting back because in Shanghai the metro and public buses stop running at 11pm. Therefore, we had to take a taxi back to the University. Taxis in Shanghai start at 14 kuai after 11pm. We got out at 11:10pm so it was a lot of money. In addition, Qi Zhong Tennis Stadium is way south of Shanghai, and Fudan is in the Yangpu district in Shanghai. We initially thought and calculated the cab ride to be around 250-260kuai, but it ended up being only 150kuai.

Today has just been a great day! Oh and in Chinese class we learned that today is apparently "Single's Day" or 光棍节(单身杰)。 It's like Valentine's Day, only for people who don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend. I just thought was funny. Today is Single's Day because it is 11.11. I think the numbers are significant in some way.

I really would like to see the final matches, but all those tickets are really sold out! I mean who wouldn't want to see the last match of the Tennis Master's Cup in Shanghai!! =D
