So we had our final night and day in Nha Trang, which was quality! Said our goodbyes to Ryan, Craig, Toby, & Sarah the four Ozy’s we’d spent the last two weeks travelling Vietnam with. I stayed out until about 3:30am despite the fact Cat and I had a snorkeling trip booked the following day which we had to get up for at 6:30am! It was painful but worth it as the snorkeling was ace. That night we got our second overnight bus to Saigon which wasn’t too bad as I needed to catch up on sleep so luckily I was passed out for most of the journey.
We only had the day in Saigon and so we went to see tothe Cho Chu Tunnels which were really interesting, sort of surreal to think what happened in the war and how the tunnels were used. We crawled 100m of one and were knackered, some of the ‘home made’ war traps were pretty brutal but I suppose that’s the point. From Saigon we flew to Bangkok and the following day got a connecting flight to Surat Thani to get us to the islands.
The first port of call was Koh Pangan arriving a day before the full moon party. We met up with Kimbo and Ste again who had sorted out our accommodation at Coral Bungalows just around the bay from the full moon beach. Koh Pangnan is a really fun island; it’s a perfect place for backpackers. The full moon party itself was quality, time just seemed to pass far too fast. We had a quality group of people for it, made up from people Cat and I had met and others that Kimbo and Ste had met. In total there were 11 of us that went out for a meal beforehand and then onto party, they were: Kimbo, Ste, Danny, Laura, Maria, Clair, Erika, Chantal, & Christen, it was also Chantal’s birthday so double celebration! Not too much to say about the full moon party mainly because the memory is slightly fuzzy (damn buckets), but the main points from it were plenty of facepaint, plenty on buckets, plenty of dancing, and arriving home at about 7:30 am!
After a day recovery (got out of bed at 5pm) Cat, Kimbo, Ste and I went off to Koh Samui. Didn’t do too much here, we only stayed on the one main resort which seemed more built up for package holidays rather than backpackers. After a few more buckets and meals on the beach we headed for Koh Tao.
We’ve been on Koh Tao for four days now and its ace. We’ve just finished our Open Water diving qualification which I’ve been dying to do. In fact I enjoyed it so much I’m going to have a day break, go party with our dive group tonight and start my advanced diving course the following day. Other advanced groups have seen Whale Sharks over the last few days so I’m praying to see one of them, if not I’ll have to settle for the Bull Sharks! Don’t worry mum we don’t swim in their feeding grounds so it’s relatively safe! Haha.
Uncle Bob, you’ll be pleased to know the SFG album (Scouting For Girls for those of you who are not down with the cool lingo!) has just been on in the bar I’ve had lunch in. Perhaps you should suggest they tour Koh Tao!
