We arrived by train into amsterdam and before we'd left the train station we'd been approached by some guy looking to give away a bag of weed, because he was getting a train to germany and needed to get rid of it... Sadly for him, none of our group are weed smokers, so we had to graciously decline.
We trekked around the city to hostel after hostel, only to find that every hostel in the city was full, and booked out for the coming weeks. We wandered the streets, not sure where we were going to sleep for the night, until we were approached by a shady looking gent. He asked us if we wanted an apartment for 6 people. Through desperation and tiredness, we accepted his offer. What we got was a reasonably priced, central apartment. Admittedly it was smelly and dirty, but it's all part of the experience.
We went to the sex museum and rambled through the red-light district. We did river tours which were interesting. They explained the history of the buildings we'd been walking around for the past few days... The atmosphere of the place was very relaxed, as you'd expect from such a liberal city.
We left here for paris after a few days...
