Day 2
Awoke around 10am - had heard the 'call to prayer' earlier - but wasn't sure what time though. Had an Ok sleep, bit worried about the moggies, but all fine.
Had a look around before catching the free hotel bus to downtown Cairo. Was hoping to go for a look around the old district but too far to walk. Journey in was amazing, a motorvehicle free-for-all. No lane discipline and everyone jostling for position and coning within an inch of each other. Various horns sounding constantly but not with aggression. Saw an open back truck full of goats.
Arrived in Cairo and was unbeknowingly accosted by a bloody tout who is now welcoming us to his family and before we know it, we've bought an over-priced map and we're off to see his brother (perfumes), cousin and Egyptologist (papyrus) and his sister who we escaped before she had chance to peddle her wares! One and a half hours later we are FREE!
On leaving the shop, perfume guy on way back in so now follows us up the street and introduces his other cousin! Anyway, we escaped and got terrifying taxi journey to hotel passing 2 rather large oxon in the back of a pick up! Got back to the hotel, got changed and went for several beers and a swim.
Read our books and chilled by the pool. Went back for a kip and then back out for something to eat, a beer and a sheesha pipe! Only 65p!
