We're in Africa! This is my first time in Africa and first impressions are all good. It's VERY hot, but I guess that's what you'd expect. We haven't really done an awful lot so far as the night flight took it out of us all a bit. Our hotel's nice though and we've got a lovely view of the sea, palm trees and the pool (which we'll be trying out later!). Had a great buffet lunch - we're a bit worried about its effects and fitting in the seats on the plane on the way back!
Just realised I haven't even said where we are! We're staying in a place called Bamburi, which is just north of Mombasa. I can't tell you a lot about the area yet as our experience so far has been the taxi from the airport to the hotel (Nicky was particularly taken with the cows and goats grazing freely right next to the road and wandering along it) and then the 'matatu' to the supermarket complex. These seem to be great fun - little minibuses (for those of you who followed our South America journey, you'll know that we like our bus stories ;0) ) that you flag down at the side of the road and tell to stop when you want them to. A little bit of African culture :0)
We're just here to top up on water supplies - we're going to need a lot of those! - and to have a mooch around. Chris, if you're reading this, don't worry - I haven't spent anything yet.
We're planning to go to Wema tomorrow so I look forward to updating you very soon!
