For anyone wondering, I DID finally make it to Bangkok, despite missing my flight out of Cairo. I had originally planned to head to Chiang Mai for a few days, but after missing my flight, it was just easier to kick it in Bangkok for an extra day. Turns out I actually would need the few days in Bangkok! I was staying just off the infamous Khao San Road which is pretty much a vortex. Seriously... I had so many plans to go and see things in Bangkok and it just didn't happen! The first couple of days I was staying with my friend and mainly catching up on some much needed sleep before heading to Khao San.
I was able to find some super cheap accommodation on Khao San (about $6/night) while also topping my previous record for shantiest room ever. The room was big enough for a twin mattress, a vanity and me. Pictures will be posted soon enough.
My attempts to do something touristy in Bangkok, such as seeing one of it's largest outdoor markets, or checking out a temple, tended to be thwarted by rain. What I did see a lot of was the shopping malls. I also met some pretty rad people on Khao San, including meeting up with a friend I made in Amsterdam! That's probably one of the best things about traveling...not just meeting new people, but running into them again in a different part of the world.
I'm in Phuket at the moment and mainly just kicking it here too. The rain has followed me here, so it's hard to really get any beach time in and I'm afraid that I will be coming home as pale as when I left! But since I will be home in about a week, this will probably be my last post for the time being. I'll post the rest of my pictures when I get home and until my next grand journey, this is me signing off!
