Advice from Ewan and Dermot ...

2008-08-23, Porto Alegre, Brazil

Well, since my last entry and my considering heading back into Argentina due to the language difficulties I am having I have decided to stop being such a bloody wimp and deal with it !

I remembered a bit during Ewan and Charley´s Long Way Round when they were in Mongolia and struggling with the roads and were considering heading into Russia early Ewan said the following ... "It would be a shame to miss this part of the world on this trip of a lifetime, just because the roads are difficult .... who knows how many times we would pass this way ? What a terrible solution to the problem that would be, to just bale out into Russia and then regret it". Now I know my situation is hardly the same as riding a BMW across Mongolia however the sentiment is correct.

Also, Dermot emailed me and told me in no uncertain terms to get over it, if he can just come back from 3 weeks in Japan not being able to understand or read anything then I really have no excuse ! Point made !

So, I´ve spent a few days saying Obrigada here in Porto Alegre, actually just been down to the bus station to get my ticket for Foz do Iguacu for tomorrow ... got the metro down there (forgot to mention I also used the metro in Buenos Aires and Santiago, look at me, the public transport Queen !) and I had written down the phrases I needed to buy my ticket on a piece of paper.

As Sonja doesn´t arrive in Iguacu until Friday I´ll have to decide whether just to hang around there until she gets there and deal with not giving in to the temptation of seeing the falls before she gets there or I may just pop over the border into Paraguay for a few days.

Next entry: A truly memorable experience ... or 3 !
