Andrew’s list:

•Not having family and established friends around to share the journey with
•The power being out for about and hour and a half every night
•Fighter jets flying overhead several times a day. Interesting to think about, considering the cost of flying these things and people are dying here because of starvation…
•Smelly water
•Having a maid
•Pineapples for Tk20 (about 30c)
•Blocks of Cadbury chocolate for about Tk450 (about $6.50)
•Being picked up and dropped off by the school van as transport to and from school
•Living in the same apartment block as colleagues
•Hanging out after hours with colleagues
•Crossing the language barrier with gestures and my appallingly pronounced Bangla
•The luxury of cable TV – we now can watch the Olympics!
•Having a rooftop where we can just hang out. I feel a roof party brewing…
•Sleeping under a mosquito net
•Living under fans
•Having to wear a shirt, tie and trousers to work
•Teaching the IB
•Not having to wear trakkies or jumpers, or even having to consider using them, ie 30 - 35 degrees every day
•Having to switch the hot water tank on at least 10 mins before having a shower
•Leaving outside shoes at the front door before walking around inside
•Trying to reconcile exactly to live and give, considering the situations right outside our front door
•Hearing the Islamic call to prayer several times a day
•Not understanding 99.9% of what is said around me
