As we had only 1 week off during August we decided to visit Kirsten's brother who is living with his family near Oulu, a major city in the northern parts of Finland. After the first couple of days that we spent in Oulu we went to Kuusamo a small village in the very north-east of Finland where we spent the time in the summer cottage with collecting berries & mushrooms or swimming in the nearby lake after having taken the sauna. A special highlight was the "Karhunkierros"-trail or the "Bear"-Trail which is a Trekking paradise in the Oulanka National Park belonging already to Lappland. Lots of beautiful lakes and rivers are along the trail and from time to time you can find open fireplace to prepare your Makara - a finish bratwurst. Another highlight was the trip to Rovaniemi - official home to Santa Clause and a place where the arctic circle runs through. Finland is absolutely worth visiting it, especially if you love nature or just need to recharge your batteries.
