Having one free day in Bangkok before heading to my village to visit, we decided to take a tour of Kanchanaburi which is about an hour and a half from Bangkok.
We met a nice Australian/Irish guy who was fun to chat with on the way there, though I struggled to understand his accent sometimes. He has led a full of life of traveling all over the globe, though I think he is tired because he kept talking about how he couldn't wait to go home.
First up- famous floating market. We got some good colorful shots of the longtails clogging the canals, enjoyed some fried bananas, haggled for a few good deals, and generally enjoyed wandering around. I loved the boats containing fruit the best, it seemed like every color of the rainbow was flashing as they drifted by.
Next we headed to see the King Cobra Show. I can't even type that without grimacing. I thought we would see a bunch of different snakes on display, but as well as that they had this rather stomach-twisting freak show where men threw snakes around, goaded them into constantly attacking, and let a mongoose maim the poor cobras so that the spectators could see. Not a fan.
Lastly, we headed to a nice Chinese Wat where we enjoyed some Kow Laam and took pictures of the many different statues representing Buddha and various Gods from the Hindu pantheon.
The next day we were headed for Sompoi once more!
