I'm writing this entry for the one and only purpose: my mom (or, as I like to call her, Barb). She keeps asking me to create an entry from her home turf, so here it is.
I've spent the last week here in Belfast, Northern Ireland. For the first few days, I spent most of my time at the Linen Hall Library, which was founded in 1788 and is one of the oldest in Northern Ireland. It is a new experience for me to be travelling alone for so long, so it has taken some getting used to. I'm not sure yet if I like it or not.
On Friday, my roommate from Galway came to meet me and we were able to spend the weekend together being tourists. We took a famous Black Taxi tour, took endless walks around the city, and went on a Paddywagon Tour that took us along the Antrim Coast to Derry, Giant's Causeway, and the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge.
So now I have my last night in Belfast; tomorrow I'll leave around midday to take the bus back to Dublin, as I have to fly out of the city on the next morning.
I've had some interesting experiences travelling alone over here, both good and bad. My computer broke, but I was able to get it fixed and not lose any information (well, keep your fingers crossed). The weather acts menopausal, as it rains and then becomes sunny every other minute. I've met and talked to some great Irishmen--including one who rationalized that it was okay for him to drive drunk "because," he says, "I'm a policeman." Don't ask me to explain the logic.
I've took tons of pictures, which I'm sure to post as soon as I get back to the U.S. on Wednesday night. Tomorrow, however, I'm going to devote to start putting all the research that I have gathered together into some sort of paper or presentation. Hopefully with a lot of dedicated work I can have it finished around the time that school starts.
Speaking of which, I can't believe that I will be moving back to Milwaukee a week from yesterday. It'll be great to be back, in a place I already know, and be able to have a stable home for a year.
Hope all is well with everyone else!
