We have been learning about our second president and revolutionary war hero for several years now, so it was a great treat to be in his three homes, one being his birthplace, one where he was a young professional and his family was born and raised, and the other being his post presidential retirement home.
It was like the holy grail to see the desk he wrote all those letter to Jefferson on, and the chair he died in. To be in the home on the same wood floor he walked on and to see the beams he worked by hand to make the new addition on their home. Fantastic. The Park Service did a GREAT job with the trolley rides, the tour and the interpretation of five generations of one of America's greatest and most influential families.
After the visit which took all morning and into the afternoon, we headed to New York City.
Travel Tips: Start at the visitor center. That's where you buy tickets and get aquainted. Take the ranger guided tour and trolley. Its VERY cheap and its the only way to get inside the homes. You can see them from the outside if you get a map and drive, but if you have time... go IN. So much of them is original.
Don't miss the third home either. Most of the family's original belongings are all there. Don't miss the original mirror in the third home. You can look into a mirror that John and Abigail looked into - it was a thrill.
