After our rainy experience in Byron Bay we headed further up the coast to Coolangata at The Gold Coast on 26 July. Lovely sunny day when we arrived there! Tony picked us up from the bus station and took us on a tour of Coolangata, the look out points he took us to were just spectacular! One of the first stops was Point Danger, here there is a lighthouse which marks the border of New South Wales and Queensland so we spent a few minutes acting like kids jumping between Queensland and New South Wales! The beaches there are just stunning - long strips of sand with the highest, fastest, scariest, most powerful looking waves I have ever seen! We spent most of the day wandering around Coolangata and Currumbin beaches which were pretty deserted as it was still quite cool. We ended the afternoon with a lovely schooner of Tooheys beer sitting in the sun at the Surf Club watching the surfers do their stuff! I was just mesmerised by the waves, we even saw a few dolphins at Fingal Head lookout in amongst the massive waves at Cook Island. We saw Mount Warning as we drove by in the car, Tracey's eyes lit up and I groaned at the thought of climbing yet another mountain, unfortunately we don't have time for that one! Later on after dinner Tony took us to Kirra beach lookout point where we had a bottle of vino while listening to the waves crashing below. Excellent day! The following day we took the bus up to Surfers Paradise which is further along the Gold Coast. We had a Subway on the beach, all wrapped up in our fleeces as it was pretty cold! Surfers Paradise is much busier than Coolangata and quite built up in terms of buildings, more of a tourist holiday resort, we much prefered the beaches and lookout points at Coolangata. Overall we had a fantastic 2 days at the Gold Coast!
