Hi all,
I did start writing an update last Monday but the internet connection cut out at the office so i couldn't upload it. That night i became really ill and after 6hrs at the hospital the next day having blood tests and "other" samples taken, the verdict was that i have managed to get amoebic AND bacterial dysentry at the same time. Which explains why i felt like i was going to die! Most people tend to just get one at a time (if at all) so i think i've been really unlucky and i have no idea how i got it, although i did start to take a few more risks recently, like drinking the tap water and eating unpeeled fruit - still, it's a bit of a delayed reaction if that is what caused it! Either way, today is the first day that i've felt well enough to leave my room so i thought i'd better update everyone. I'm on 2 sets of strong antibiotics so should be fine in a few days and everyone at the office has been amazing, popping round to see me, bringing me water and bananas and Tibetan porridge etc, i've been really spoilt!
The weekend before i became ill was great. A group of us travelled to a Tibetan settlement about 5hrs away called Tso Pema (or Rewalsar in Hindi) and it was really nice to see a more traditional way of life than what i'm used to here in McLeod Ganj. The whole town is centred around a lake called the Lotus Lake (which i think is what both Tso Pema and Rewalsar translate to in English) and it's a very spiritual place for Sikhs and Tibetans, the Hindus seem to like it too. I have some really good photos from there which I will upload at some point. We stayed one night there in a monastery and then went to a nearby Indian town called Mandi which was a bit like Amritsar but a lot smaller. It was nice to be back in proper Indian culture again, especially as we stayed in a hotel owned by the King of Mandi and even dined with him that night. I was a bit disappointed that he wasn't wearing a crown and in fact just looked like a little old Indian man but it was still cool.
The Dalai Lama is back in town now after a trip to the US and he's giving teachings for 3 days next week so i'm hoping to go along, as long as i can get registered in time. Can't believe i'm coming home in about 4 weeks, there's still so much i want to do here! I'd better hurry up and get better so i can stop watching HBO movies and start having fun again!
Hope everyone is well, i hear the weather in england has been nice - enjoy it while it lasts! (Haha) Kat xx
