Finally...Ibiza!
The main draw for coming here was of course, the djs. I actually planned my trip to Ibiza based on the schedule of djs I saw months and months ago and I have not been disappointed. I havenīt really done anything in Ibiza other than go to shows, so this post is just about house music. Wait, scratch that...I did go to the pathetic excuse for a beach here in San Antonio...once.
Day 1: This was a tough choice since both Roger Sanchez and Tiesto were spinning on the same night. Iīm not a huge Tiesto fan, and I love Sanchez (Iīve lost track of how many times Iīve seen him...4? 5?) but he was spinning at Pacha, where I was planning on spending the next 3 nights. So, I opted for Tiesto, in an attempt to try something different and see a club other than Pacha. Well, Tiesto was really good and Privilege is a MASSIVE club, there is really no words to describe it. Itīs not as nice as Diana had claimed, but perhaps itīs been scaled down since sheīs been there.
Day 2: Bob Sinclair! I was looking forward to this one since the only time I had seen him was right before I left for Calgary (Iīm sure many of you remember that night at the Starlight room.) His set was a little short (only 2 hours!) and lacked my favorite song, "Love Generation", but was incredible none the less. This was also the night I had the privilege of sampling the 14 euro red bull they sell at Pacha. You read correctly...14 EURO! That is about $20 canadian folks and does not even include any alcohol. Iīve now perfected the buy one bottle of water at the club (for 8 euro, $10) and refill it in the sink for the rest of the night. Pure class.
On the same night as Sinclair, I also got a chance to check out this event called Ibiza Rocks which was a concert put on with We Are Scientists and Whitey. One of the friends I made in Thailand had a hook up here in Ibiza, so I got in for free! (Thanks Simon!) Itīs funny because Whitey and We Are Scientists were also at Summercase, and it is now the 3rd time Iīve seen WAS. I gotta say this time was the best, just because it was smaller and they interacted with the crowd a lot more than at other shows.
Day 3: Last night I saw Erick Morillo at Pacha and it was incredible. I am actually running out of adjectives to describe how I feel about these djs and the shows they put on! But Morillo just gets so into the music, dancing as hard as the people in the crowd and singing along to the words, its amazing to see. He also played a decently long set, about 3 hours. We didnīt leave the club till 7am! Before Morillo came on, another dj outta Australia, Dirty South was spinning and I was pleasantly surprised. He was dropping the most dirty house beats and I understood why they call them Subliminal Sessions and why Micheal would cut off an appendage to go to one!
Tonight is my last night here in Ibiza and I am going out big with Martin Solveig and David Guetta. The party is at Pacha, and itīs gonna be huge...70 euro just to get in and no presale tickets. But Guetta is probably my most favorite dj and I have no idea if I will ever see him in Ibiza again, so I just have to bite the bullet! I have no doubts that it will be phenomenal
