Hola !
Well, I'm here in Chile and before I forget I have to say that the Chileños are really nice people, very welcoming and warm.
Once we arrived in San Pedro de Acatama me and Denis set out to find a hostel, something I have never had a problem with before but obviously down here I think I'm going to have to start booking in advance which is a bit of a pain. Eventually I found one and Denis, who had been there before went back to his old place. I spent a nice couple of days in San Pedro, really chilled out place.
I booked on a bus to La Serena down here on the coast, the bus left at 2 in the afternoon and didn't arrive here until 7am the following morning - quite a marathon. But it's good to get down to sea level again and to be able to breathe normally ! Everything here feels like being back to European prices, apart from of course the wine which is so cheap it's almost free. I suppose I better start getting used to it though .... New Zealand onwards is going to be a bit of a culture shock. Yesterday I investigated the flights over to the Falkland Islands but I've now decided to give it a miss as the cost is just too much.
It's strange but the other day, when I was in San Pedro I realised I had no idea what day it was, I had to go into an internet cafe and wave the mouse over the bottom right hand corner to find out the day and date ! Ah, how my life has changed !
Anyway, I'm probably going to hang around here in La Serena for a few more days before moving on to Santiago (the capital) where I'm hoping to meet up with Norma who I shared the house with back in Guatemala, she's flying back to Ireland from there so it'll be good to catch up with her 10 months of travels. By the way, yesterday was the anniversary of my leaving work - weird !
