Una Fiesta

2008-07-15, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua

I am finally at a computer where the keyboard works! San Juan del Sur is a sweet little beach town, although I think that I have been spoiled by Loreto. We are planning on staying here for another week and then heading to Granada to study spanish in an interesting city. My homestay mom is a great cook, and serves us, well, rice and beans of course. Sometimes we get some chicken or fish to go along with it, and it´s great. After Costa Rica, i had very low expectations, but the food is good and I really like Nicaragua. The people are beautiful and friendly, filled with happiness and curiosity about the world. It´s refreshing. Our homestay is atop a hill, about a 20 minute walk from the school (our daily excercise) and it´s always an interesting adventure (lots of honking included). And there are roosters that crow all day here. The San Juan del Sur spanish school is also pretty good. I sit looking out on the beach while i search for my missing vocabulary. The teachers are also great, I think that we´ll learn a lot while we´re here. Last night when we got back to our house, we walked into a fiesta. Our homestay´s family was having a crazy birthday party. We drank the national rum, flor de something, and danced to reggaeton music. We even had cake (moe had a rice disaster, so we´d already tried a bit of the icing...shh..don´t tell). We finally passed out while the LOUD music played into the night...ahh traveling...
