With Paolina´s family

So, I haven´t been updating recently because I haven´t gotten an opportunity to use the internet here. We arrived in Mexico City on June 30th, and Paolina´s family came to pick us up 2 hours later. (yes we waited a while before her family arrived). So many people came to pick us up at the airport. There was Luis Alejandro, Oto, Vero, Manolo, Miguel, Miriam, Manolo, and Rosie. They were so welcoming!!

On our way from the airport to their house, Clare was not feeling too well. She threw up. When we arrived to Nori and Celi´s house, there were so many people there welcoming us. Denise even made a little poster that said Bienvenidos. I really get to practice my spanish here because no one really speaks English here. I am really glad I learned Spanish in high school. Although it has also made me realize how badly I am at speaking it. I mean I can get by, but it´s really hard. I stopped taking Spanish my junior year of high school.

ANYWAYS...Julio, Paolina´s second cousin is the one who invited us the next day to el campo del futbol (the soccer field) for Paolina and I to watch him and his friends play soccer. It was really very exciting!! (something I had never experienced before). Then Daniella (Manolo´s ex'girlfriend) and I joined the boys in playing soccer. I was really bad, but it was really fun. There were also a bunch of school girls cheering the boys on, and Ricardo, one of the friends, was loving the attention. After playing soccer, we stood in a group and they were teaching me the essential Mexican swears. It seems as though whenever someone begins learning a language from locals the first words learned are swears. It was really funny.

Then Luis Alejandro, Abril and Aranza´s father, brought out this bbq-type thing and bought some cactus, beef, salsa, churiso (sausage), and tortillas. It began to rain, and we stood underneath this shack-type thing to cook and eat. Throughout the soccer game, there was so much beer (it´s just the culture). The food was sooo amazing!!!

I don´t have time to share what happend during my birthday weekend in Acapulco, but I will be sure to update when I get back home.

=)
