Aaron here again. We are still awaiting sufficient technology to do a picture update, but they are incredible. We are hanging around Victoria falls, our group is loosing people and gaining new, and Laura will write about our extreme , adrenaline fueled activities in a few days.
Here are some of my thoughts as this marks the half way point of our 6 week overland.
"I am not going to be hot on this trip." I thought as i packed my duo dry, wickable, breathable clothes and flipflops. Now 3 weeks into it, I am in a shower in Zambia, staring at the hot water heater as if my gaze can savor every drip, realizing how true the above word are.
I haven't minded being cold at night about as much as I haven't minded how the mosquitoes thickly hang in the air like smoke after fireworks on a humid day. (Seriously, there are "mosies" splattered all over the walls of the shower like stickers on a Ohio st. helmet...oh and we popped, and thankfully repaired, our thermarest) But it's really not as bad as it sounds. I am having a great time when the sun shines :) The conditions I expected compared to what we've experienced would have been a lot tougher on me. After all, I hooked up with one amazing girl on this trip!
Speaking of...part of the adventure of experiencing Africa has been experiencing each other. Laura twitches when she sleeps, drinks a lot of hot chocolate, can't walk up sand dunes well, and gets car sick. She also is very supportive, organized, helpful and slow to complain. Lots of other dudes hope they find a wife that goes to Africa with them. We spend our free time reading and talking about what we'll do when we get back.
Right now we are along the Zambezi river looking at the massive cloudof mist made by Victoria Falls. In a few hours we will be viewing it by helicopter. What a wedding present!!
As I reflect on activities like Elephant hikes, mocoro rides, townships, game drives and look ahead to copters, craters and creatures, it's easy to see that our discomforts are a small price in exchange for the memories, experience, confidence, and relationships we are cultivating together.
With 5 weeks left in our trip, we both agree that the best activities are ahead. Hello, we still have Israel!!
Brothers(jake and Jeff) we want to hear about your summers, so badly, that we threaten a blog holdout until you email us.....c'mon guys, not everyone else should have to suffer.
Love you all, Aaron and Laura
