Work and nothing else

Hello people. It´s definitely been a while, but I have found free internet in my site and it’s pretty fast. I only told myself that I would use it when I am doing work for the schools. I am right now...I’m looking up diagrams for a lesson plan that I am doing. When I finish doing that, I’ll find something else I need to do like diagrams of something else. So I hope that everyone is doing well.

I have been really busy here. It was a lot of work all at once especially since I just got to the area and I didn’t know anything about the education systems here. Every school wanted me to work with them. Now, I’m starting to turn schools down. I’m only working in four schools at tops three days a week. I need time to make lesson plans and visit people in my community. Plus I’m working with the Agricultural school here and the mayor’s office. I need days to plan stuff with them, too. I also refuse to work on the weekends unless I’m bored. I’m not going to be a slave to my job. If I wanted to live like that, I’d go back to the U.S.

So, right now, my main focus is to make school gardens in the rural schools to improve the nutrtion of the students. Some of the kids in these schools are suffering from malnutrition. There are some kids that have their hair loosing color because of malnutrition. They are all really small, but I don’t know if that’s just because the people here are usually small. There are definitely some kids that wear the same outfit everyday to school and they can’t afford shoes, so they wear flipflops.

What esle can I say? Everything here is getting cold. Last night I was so cold that I couldn’t sleep. I finally had to put a hot water bottle at my feet and wrap myself in my emergency blanket. It worked because I woke up this morning toasty warm. I’m going to buy some more blankets today and get a little heater this weekend. I wish they had heating in houses in this country, but that would be asking for a lot, especially since some houses don’t have glass covering the windows. Taking a shower more than twice a week is going to be a struggle. I’ll have to wait for the hottest part of the day, if there is any.

School will be out soon for winter break. I am so excited about that. Two week vacation here I come. I think I’m going to buy a futon and a matress when I go into the city. I want to have a little sitting place in my humble abode to entertain guests, or just to sit and watch a movie. Other than that, everything is going as smooth as you can expect. I still don't eat Bolivian food. I can't manage to get through a plate piled high with three different bland starches and a side of meat. It's too much for this little person. I have been making some mean cakes and great tropical juices, like papaya, strawberry lemonade and maybe even mango.

Hope everyone is having a fun summer.
