My decision to teach in Lebanon again

Dear family, friends and general people surfing the net (whoever you are),

Most of you know what I’m up to at the moment, but for the benefit of those who don’t, here’s my first update to this new blog. There will be other updates and photos uploaded in the next day or so (for the benefit of family who haven’t seen them yet), look at them if you wish, but this is the main place things are happening!

I am now a trained teacher but after training, I found it very difficult to find a job due to a shortage of posts for my specialist subject in the Midlands. I applied for something in the region of 50 jobs this time last year - which is an incredibly draining depressing experience (made worse by every single person I know asking me about it every time I saw them! – it was all out of love though of course!).

Since September 2007, I’ve been working as a supply teacher around the Midlands. Supply teaching in general is pretty grim, but there are a minority of schools you visit which are lovely places to work. In my case these have mainly been the Primary schools I’ve visited. This and other factors is why I’m now thinking that I’d like to get a job as a Primary teacher rather than a Secondary. The only thing is, I lack the experience to get a job straight off.

At the same time, I have been asked by the Principal of the school I taught at in Lebanon to consider returning to the school to teach a class there this September. I had planned returning there one day when I’d gotten experience teaching in the UK. Once again, God has sorted the situation out in a way that will be beneficial to everyone! I need experience teaching younger children and the school needs a teacher who is a believer who wants to teach there.

So, I shall be going to the school, God willing, in September 2008 to teach there again! I’m very much looking forward to teaching the children there and working with the staff at the school and the local church.
