7 days ago we shouldered our packs and climbed into our overland truck with 22 others - people from US, Canada, New Zealand, Sweden, Australia and one Spaniard. We've spent our time so far in north South Africa and Namibia. Northern South Africa reminded Aaron of Italy, wine country. Namibia is a lot like Arizona, arid and desert.
We've adjusted to our new rhythm being on safari -- putting up/taking down tents, packing/unpacking, cleaning dishes -- most memorably is how we have to dry everything by flapping them in the air until we put it back in the bin. At least everyone looks ridiculous together!
So far we've seen some pretty awesome stuff. Aaron took a dip in the orange river, we went to Fish River Canyon (2nd to the Grand Canyon). We camped out under the stars in the desert, hiked a Namibian mountain and climbed dune 45 for sunset. The dune was 380 ft tall and I (Laura) was completely exhausted going up --- it was all worth it though!
We're in Swakopmund now. Aaron's saavy travel and math skills is making us money and keeping us on top of things. Enjoy the pictures to the right.
We love you! Aaron + Laura
