Perhaps, you won't believe me but here it's almost like in a jungle! There're palm trees and other trees with or without beautiful blossoms....tararara.
But this story isn't going to be about flora! It's gonna be about fauna in the hotel area. There're the packs of "free independent dogs" that are almost everywhere. You shouldn't be surprised if you trip over a dog in a hotel corridor or a hotel hall! They're everywhere. Last time, one of them even ate me at the beach! I was sleeping, of course, when suddenly I woke up and I was almost in its mouth.
Forget dogs! They're almost nothing comparing to cretan cats!!! These're everywhere and what's more they aren't afraid of humanbeings! I love the view when a couple of young children starts to pursue the cats, screaming miaaoow, miaaoow! These cretan cats are really naughty and they're bit different than these in Slovakia, for ex. the eyes are different. Yeah, it was yesterday. I almost collapsed because of fear! Indeed! I was doing my round around the hotel area, as a security guy when I saw one door, which is usually closed, opened and I decided to close it. I was trying to be extremely fearless and then a cat ran out of the door with terrible noise! Let's imagine that. Four clock in the morning, everywhere absolut darkness and the cat, which feared me to death! Be sure, I was trembling few seconds after this accident. But now I'm OKey.
I don't know how natural it's to meet a cockroach on Crete but in this hotel it's daily routine to see one....almost everywhere! I can't remember if I had seen one before I came here, I think NO. Someone said that meeting lion or zebra or elephant in Africa is the same as meeting cockroach on Crete...hmmm....I don't know. I'm lucky I haven't found one at my room yet.
Do you like bats? I don't mind but there're quite a lot of them. What's more you can find here also weasels! Really! I won't forget my first view of weasel on Crete. I was doing my security round around the hotel complex when I suddenly saw something running towards me! It has brown fur and it was big as a medium cat. Thanks God it stopped several metres in front of me. In that moment I pointed my torch to it and could realise that it's just a weasel, it was very nice. Then it jumped into plants and escaped of my view. Luckily, I saw another weasel the same week, also at night. This one was climbing up and down a tree.
Not to forget, I've got to mention the species which is the highest in number...and it's mosquito. There're loads of them and it's not fun with them, believe me. My salvation is that I've learned myself not to scratch the places where the mosquitos bite me but I feel the unpleasant feeling but I know if I don't scratch it, it'll be OK in few hours or days.
So, I think that I've mentioned all the animals I've had a chance to see in the hotel complex yet. Maybe later, I'll have to add a paragraph to this story...
And the time has come, I must add another species, it's gecko. I hope that you all know what gecko is, do you? If not, here is the explanation from http://dictionary.cambridge.org/ GECKO = "a small lizard with wide feet, found especially in warm countries" I haven't seen them many yet but surely they're here. I can remember when I wento to Crete for the first time, 4-5 years ago, it was absolutely normal when you saw them climbing on the walls, ceilings... For me, they seem to be transparent but I don't think they're, they just look as if they're. What more to write about them... I think they're quite fast, I've never caught one, so, but I've not tried yet, too.
I've found out something new about the cats and the dogs here.I was a bit curious how they manage to get by but that is obvious because there's so much rubbish all around, I don't mean that rubbish is absolutely everywhere but it's at loads of places and it's also put near bins and containers just in plastic sacks so these cats and dogs can easily get to it, scatter it and eat it. Last few days, I had an opportunity to see a local dog pack and a cat pack as well, several times, nuzzling in rubbish that was left near rubbish containers that were, I suppose, full. In my opinion this is the way how they can get by though I think that there're also people who feed them too.
One more thing. In the sea there're fish! Not very big, not very nice but there're few.
