9th June 2008

Alright, so a few people have told me that I am taking this great exciting adventure, and when I'm old and gray, I should have something to remember them by. Obviously we are going to have the pictures, but it would also be a good idea to write it all down. Well, we are in the technological age, so it is more like type it all down.

So the best place to start the documentary of the whole trip would be at the going away party.

Stew and I decided to have a get together dinner in Gosnells. We put the event up on FB, cause as my status aptly said one day ¡V the only way to see your friend these days is to create an event on FB. Had a few acceptances and a few not comings. We made the booking for 15, but apparently we are more popular then we thought and had to get an extra 4 seats. Unfortunately a few of our table had to site close to a few funky looking people ¡V and for that I apologise.

So we went to Ogden¡¦s. The place where you can cook your own steak. I decided against the cooking my own option and got the one that the chef would cook for me. I also went that night with the express intent not to drink. Obliviously that went right out the window in about, well I hadn¡¦t even sat down and decided I needed a nice cool wine.

The night was a smashing success and I was so very glad that so many people turned up. We didn¡¦t stay for very long, but long enough for me knocked over a bottle by myself and do the nut bush with Kylie and Emma ƒº

On Sunday we packed and got all our stuff together. Why is it that when you are going away, all of a sudden you have 14 loads of washing to do? Stew has been a good house wife all week, doing the washing, and still we had quite a few loads left to do ¡V about 5.

It was sad saying good bye to Stew¡¦s parents place. Although it is forever away, and practically turned us into a 65 year old couple, I really liked living there¡K ow well.

Sunday night we stayed at Stew¡¦s grandad¡¦s house. Was good to just hang out with Jac and Stew¡¦s grandad. As we where flying out the next morning, I certainly wasn¡¦t expecting a brilliant sleep. Added to that a double soft bed ¡V it was an interesting night sleep to say the least ƒº

Monday morning, this morning, was here before we even knew it. I got a bit nostalgic this morning. For the last 8 months Stew and I have been building up to this. Living with the in-laws, getting married and all the other drama that has filled up my year so far. And now this is it¡K there is no turning back now¡K this is it¡K ready for the big adventure. Of course it was pissing down with rain. Because Stew and I had too much luggage, we had to take the ute and my suitcase was put in the tray, so of course, it was saturated when we got to the airport. Stew and I where lining up to check in and I was worried about having to pay extra for our luggage as I was sure we had more then we where allowed. We got to the counter, Stew¡¦s case goes up ¡V 29kg. OMG! We are only suppose to have 20kg each, and we still have my suitcase and another two suitcases to go! Mine goes up ¡V 28kg. OW GOD! What are we going to do¡K? The lady was like, you can go and re-pack or you will have to pay extra. We weight it all up ¡V 76KG!!!!!!! Holy Crap! And at $20 a kg, this is going to cost us $500¡K again ¡V ow no ƒ¼ Stew is just like, no ¡V we¡¦ll just pay for it. But there goes about 17 pairs of shoes!

So we had a bite to eat at Dome with Jac and then decided it was time to go. We started to go through the debacle that is leaving Australia. Because of the new laws, all gels and the like now have to put into a plastic bag, of course, I¡¦m carrying my make-up case, so that is number 1 ¡V empty all my make-up into a plastic bag. We go through boarder control, not an issue. We then get to security, you have to take practically everything out of your, we pile up the conveyor belt. Stew goes through to metal detectors, I go through ¡V ¡§beep, beep, beep¡¨. ¡§Excuse me ma¡¦am, could you please remove any jewellery and go through again¡¨. No worries, luckily, no beeping this time. I am about to pick up my bags though and the guy is like ¡V ma¡¦am it seems you have some perfume, could you please take them out and put the bag back through again. No worries. That goes through ¡V I don¡¦t have dastardly plans for the flight. We are almost home free ¡V ow no! ¡§Excuse me ma¡¦am, sir, random explosive test!¡¨ This is not random. They have seen what has happened. They are just trying to make me angry now. Just so you all know, we pass with flying colours ¡V not bomb makers!

DUTY FREE SHOPPING ¡V I think this is my new favourite thing about travelling so far. I¡¦m sure it isn¡¦t that much cheaper then if I buy in Myer, but it is just all there and seems so accessible. All the pretty perfume bottles and pretty Chanel make-up. I brought some Clinique face wash and a $5 bottle of Southern Comfort (375ml ¡V I¡¦m sure that is a good deal!). We also got some headphones!

The flight was pretty uneventful. Although, I have to say Royal Brunei have great leg room. Being a short-ass, this isn¡¦t ever really an issue for me. But cause I have a 6 foot husband, I am aware of this situation. The configuration was also 2, 3, 2. We where on the 2 with no-one behind us ¡V hello reclining seat.

So we arrived in Brunei and it was humid! Apparently Brunei is only 47km north of the equator ¡V tropical. We had to get visa¡¦s and we had to declare the little bit of alcohol we brought into the country. Because we hadn¡¦t organised a transfer to the airport, we had to pay $25brunie for a 5 minute taxi fare¡K bit steep, but at least we know for next time that there is a shuttle bus!

That¡¦s about it for the going away and our first day. Nothing cataclysmically exciting, but it is the start of our adventure ¡V so that is pretty exciting for me.
