Days 1 and 2

2008-06-01, Dhaka, Bangladesh

Ok so we haven't had time to go to an internet cafe recently. This is my first update in Bangladesh. Each day has been so busy. The traffic here is horrible. We spend most of our days on the road. It's ridiculous, but so far everything has been fantastic. My friends and I have been enjoying the culture here.

So the first day I arrived at the Dhaka Airport I didn't know what to expect. I knew I had to wear conservative clothing because this is a predominantly Muslim country. In addition, the culture itself requires women to be covered (not necessarily the head of course), but arms and stuff. The airport here is relatively small. Going through customs and getting our luggage was fairly easy. Oh and I completely forgot about my horrible journey to Heathrow International Airport from my hostel. Ok so this is what happend: I checked out at 10am, and put my luggage down to go for a walk. I came back to the hostel, sat in the lobby area to write in my regular journal (not my online one) until noon because my flight was at 3:25pm, and I was pretty close to the airport. I left at around noon, and went on the underground. I took the wrong tube! It went past my stop. Then I had to lug my luggage to the other side of the platform and so on and so forth. I must say that the British are very willing to help in times of need. I finally got on the right tube. Then I needed to figure out what terminal I needed to go to because my ticket did not indicate that, and I honestly didn't know I could have checked in online prior to my arrival to the airport (because I'm an idiot). Anyways, there are 5 terminals and the tube goes to each one. I stopped at each one before I found out I was supposed to go to Terminal 5. I got there, checked in, and the system told me I had to go back to Terminal 4 (the first terminal I went to). I was so mad! It was already past 1pm and I was worried because I was supposed to meet my friends at the airport. Anyways, I finally got to
Terminal 4 and was relieved. My gate was Gate 11. I ran. Thank God I made it on time.

OK that was Day 1!

Day 2

Arrival to Bangladesh:
We saw Mahah outside the airport and we were relieved because there were many people waiting, and it reminded me of a prison because there were gates around the airport. We walked towards Mahah and these guys really wanted to take our luggage, but obviously I didn't let them because they were strangers and they just wanted a tip. We walked to Mahah's cars and the drivers: Sifuel Chacha and Haroon Chacha put our luggage away and drove us to Mahah's grandmother (Dadu)'s apartment. We got there, and she lives on the 5th floor so we took showers and got ready to eat breakfast because it was around 8am. I ate with my hands. It was pretty cool actually. We had "rooti" (not sure if that's how it's spelled) but it reminds me of a soft shelled taco shell, and chicken and eggs with tomato. The rest of the day we rested up and went to see Mahah's apartment. It was cool.
