The last entry I wanted to stand alone, it's weighing on my thoughts. On to the fun!
Recipe for Kelsey's Thai Mocha 2 spoons instant coffee 1/2 pkg Olvaltine 1 scoop coffee whitener 1 scoop sugar
I can see Kelly shudder from here. Seriously, all they drink is instant coffee here in Thailand, and they make a package in a cup that needs to be twice as big to accomodate the amount of water you ACTUALLY should be using! Everyone laughed when I brought in a bigger mug.
Last weekend my family went to Tor Tote waterfalls. Basically it was a part of the river with many worn rocks where people go to swim and have picnics. It's really beautiful, and with the rushing water everywhere, no mosquitos! It was fast water, and the rocks made it really hard to move around, because while the water looks deep, the to of the rocks are actually maybe a foot under water. I have decided all Thai kids are monkeys in disguise, you should have seen them leaping around! I ended up having quite a crowd of kids around me by the end, either just staring, or trying to talk to me. I endeared myself to a family after grabbing their toddler who got caught in a fast part of the river and carrying him out. They bought us fish as a thank you, and I spent 4 hours playing with the kids. It was a fabulous day, and I slept for 10 hours after because I was so tired. I am apparently getting old.
I have also been to Ban Kwow, which is a famous village where people live who make the Thai Silk. People from all over the world go there to buy the very thick fabric spun often in the houses of the people who own the shops. A few of the students' families also spin silk. It takes two days to make one skirt, which they get paid 200 baht for (about $7). I bought silk and paid for a tailor to make two long coats, one vibrant orange, the other blue irridescant with embroidery. They are going to be perfect for the spring and fall back home! I am going back tomorrow to pick up some silk for gifts. It's not the most wearable silk because it's super thick and stiff, but it makes really nice suits and coats and pillows.
Must run, sawatdee ka!
