Hello Everyone!!
Another fantastic weekend for the Black and White Army!! Not such a good weekend for west coast though (sorry Lisa). One hundred points is quite a thrashing.
We have had some plumbing blockages in our apartment because when it was being built the builders hosed the left over cement into the floor drains instead of putting it into a bin. Very smart indeed. So we had maintenance in a few times to fix a few problems. Each time we have had people turn up who barely spoke any English (or conveniently didn’t know English to avoid work or our frustration with them for not fixing anything properly). One of them had to do some drilling. He pulled out a drill with no plug on the end of the cable and proceeded to attempt jamming the bare wires into a power point with an uninsulated screwdriver. You can imagine my reaction. Even though they knew very little English, they knew what I was communicating to them!
Some exciting news from the United States. My sister is engaged!! I wish her and Dan a lifetime of happiness together. The wedding is going to be in Hobart in 2010. So I will be back then and would definitely love to catch up with everyone (and maybe tear up the Syrup dance floor!!).
Today we went for a drive to Oman, otherwise known as a visa run. Driving to Oman is the easiest way to get a visa renewed.
When we got to the border we had to get an exit stamp for the UAE on our passports. Then we got back in the car, drove for a few kilometres, and stopped at a car checking point. Too easy, just pop the boot, get a clearance ticket, then we drive for a few more kilometres to the Al Wajaja border post (Oman border station). We parked the car on the Dubai side (to avoid paying car insurance for Oman), walked into the building and got a visit visa at a cost of 120 Dirham’s (less than $40 AUD for both Ben and I). We then went outside and walked to the Oman exit side of the building and got an exit stamp.
We walked back to the car, in the scorching heat, and drove back to Dubai. Along the way back we had to stop at the UAE entry point and get our passports stamped with a visa. On the way to and from Oman we saw many camels in the sand dunes. Closer to Oman the environment was very mountainous. We saw a number of four wheel drives going over the sand dunes with passenger getting a major adrenaline rush. A movie that I have been waiting with anticipation to see, and following every movement of its eventuation into film, is the Sex in the City movie. However I am most disappointed that it has not been rated or cleared for viewing here and there is even speculation of the title being changed. I have the whole TV show box set, and even copied it to the external hard drive on the computer prior to leaving Australia so I could bring it here to watch. I am absolutely devastated! I hope that everyone who sees the movie enjoys it.
I hope everyone on school holidays is having a lovely time enjoying their well earned break.
It’s been lovely getting updates from people back home. Take care and stay warm. : P
Cheers, Neitz xx
