Our last stop of the tour was Koh Tao, We were there for 4 days which gave me just enough time to take scuba lessons and get my PADI License. Graham, James and Kat were taking the course with me.
Day One – Consisted of going over equipment, watching educational DVD’s about diving and reading chapters in our text book. Tremendously boring but it had to be done.
Day Two – stared the day at 8am with a small test. But the fun was starting with the first trip into the water. We only went to a maximum dept of 3m just to practice exercises like taking off your goggles in the water and using other diver’s air supply. Breathing under water for the first time was very cool. Damn blue fist kept trying to eat my scab on my elbow. Very annoying.
Day Three – Started again at 8am with more DVD’s and our exam. (which I passed, wohoo!). Then we went out to our first proper dive to the Japanese gardens. We went for a swim, were we got to see some banner, trigger, butterfly fish & sea urchins. On the second dive of the day we practiced a few more exercises. One were I had to pretend that I was out of air and had to go to my buddy (Graham) to use his 2nd air supply. This was fine until Graham’s goggles started to fill up with water and he had trouble getting them cleared and he swam away taking my only source of air out of my mouth, though it was ok as my air was still running. Though I have been winding Graham up since about nearly killing me lol
Day Four – Started at 6.30am (ungodly hour on holiday) we went for our first dive of the day, which was 18m. When we got down the coral was covered in a fisherman net that was trapping all the fish. The instructors sprang into action with there knifes to save the day. Our Instructor, Chris (This is no joke) had a wet suit that was actually the bat suit and his weight belt was yellow. The Dark Knight of the sea. Hero at work lol It was sad to see so many fish in distress but great to see so many people come together from different businesses to help out. Our second dive wasn’t as eventful but got to see many great things including a giant clam.
