Some of the group (some didn’t make it due to the party the night before) took a trip to the Chiaw Lan Lake a reservoir create by the Chiaw Lan Dam. After a 30 minute boat trip (Graham losing his hat along the way) we arrive at huts floating on bamboo on the lake side. The scenery is truly amazing with the Khao Sok National Park beside us.
Here we did a spot of swimming and Kayaking in water hot enough to have a bath in. After a BBQ lunch of fish (head still attached as we ate it), curry and local fruits we headed for a trek through the rain forest trying to avoid leeches and spiders. The guide every so often would stop and lift a leaf where we found a spider tunnel. At one stage he actually picked one up and when he dropped it the spider took an angry stance and we were told to back off quite quickly. We visited a cave that was also used as a place of worship.
We went back to our base were we had time for more swimming. I was challenged to a spot of Kayak Gladiators were two stand on a kayak and using the oars try and force each other off. Dan from England was the challenger but victory was mine!!! Match video to appear on You Tube soon.
